Probe Commission recommends legal action against Mahara and six others in gold smuggling case

KATHMANDU: The Gold Smuggling Probe Commission has recommended filing a case against seven individuals, including former Speaker of Parliament Krishna Bahadur Mahara, in connection with a 60kg gold smuggling case and involvement in the smuggling using vape.

The commission, during its investigation, also recorded Mahara’s statement.

Additionally, it suggested legal action against Hong Kong citizen Manjil Shrestha, Abhinash Rawat, and Jeevan Gurung.

Abhinash Rawat, a driver for Bishnu Poudel, an officer at the Customs Office at Tribhuvan International Airport, is accused of aiding in the sale of gold smuggled using vape devices.

Jeevan Gurung, currently detained in relation to the smuggling of 14kg of gold from Dubai, serves as the chief executive officer at Platinum College in Dillibazar.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) has linked Gurung to the 60kg gold smuggling case as well.
