Melamchi water to be regularly distributed to Kathmanduites: PM



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ stated that the government has been making efforts to provide a safe and sustainable drinking water service to the growing population of the Kathmandu Valley.

In his address at the inauguration of the Melamchi drinking water diversion and redistribution held at Singhadurbar this morning, PM Dahal mentioned that the second phase of Yangri and Larke rivers diversion would proceed with a specific action plan for the sustainable arrangement of drinking water.

During the occasion, PM Dahal emphasized the need to address the issue of drinking water considering its growing demand due to the rising Kathmandu populace.

“The government is making efforts to provide a safe and sustainable drinking water service. The construction of the head box of the Melamchi drinking water project will be completed soon, and a concrete action plan will be implemented to advance the second phase of Yangri and Larke rivers diversion,” he stated.

He added that a comprehensive study and a concrete action plan would be implemented to reconstruct the project as a long-term solution.

PM Dahal further mentioned that he had directed the concerned authorities to make arrangements to operate the existing alternative systems throughout the year.
