Rabi to be returned to Pokhara as investigation continues

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane is set to be returned to Pokhara by police on Thursday evening after completing recording his statement in Rupandehi.

According to an RSP Secretariat source, Lamichhane’s statement is expected to conclude by 4 PM, with plans for him to depart from Rupandehi on a 4:45 PM flight.

On Kartik 25, the Kaski District Court granted an additional 13-day remand for further investigation into Lamichhane’s alleged involvement in cooperative fraud.

Since his remand was extended in Kaski, his custody time in Rupandehi is counted as part of Kaski’s jurisdiction.

In response to Lamichhane’s detention, RSP organized a protest motorbike rally from Butwal to Bhairahawa on Thursday.

Lamichhane, who was arrested in Kathmandu on Kartik 2 over cooperative fraud allegations, has been under investigation for the alleged misappropriation of funds from the Supreme Cooperative in Butwal.

Following a Rupandehi District Court-issued arrest warrant, he was brought to the  office of the district attorney in Bhairahawa three days ago.

His remand periods have been extended multiple times, with the Kaski District Court’s latest extension on Kartik 25 under Judge Nabaraj Dahal, adding 13 more days for investigation.
