KATHMANDU: A meeting of the International Relations and Tourism Committee of the House of Representatives has been scheduled to discuss Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s upcoming visit to China.

The committee will convene at 11 am on Sunday in its meeting room at Singha Durbar.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana has also been invited.

Prime Minister Oli is set to embark on a five-day official visit to China on December 1.

It is anticipated that discussions during the visit will include the signing of an implementation plan for the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The BRI has been a topic of ongoing debate within the committee. There are differing views on whether Nepal should accept loans under the BRI framework.

Members of the Nepali Congress, in particular, have advocated for a policy of accepting only grants and avoiding loans under the BRI.

Additionally, both the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML have called for the cancellation of the Chinese loan taken for the Pokhara International Airport project.

According to the committee, the meeting aims to understand the government’s stance on these issues and provide necessary recommendations.
