KATHMANDU: The government has intensified efforts to rescue, repatriate, and reunite Nepali workers held captive in India with their families.

The Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens has expedited the rescue of Nepalis who were abducted and forced to work without wages in conflict-affected areas.

These individuals were reportedly lured with promises of attractive wages and employment opportunities in road construction and other sectors.

Dinesh Bhattarai, Secretary of the Ministry, reported that seven men from Dhanusha district and 21 men from Siraha district, aged 24 to 60, were recently rescued with the assistance of the Indian non-governmental organization ‘Kin India’ and safely brought back to Nepal.

This rescue operation was led by the Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, in coordination with the Nepali Embassy in India and with technical support from ‘Kin India.’

The rescued individuals were brought to Janakpur, where they were provided with care and protection.

The Ministry emphasized that the rescue and protection of human trafficking victims remain a top priority.

The 28 individuals were reunited with their families in Dhanusha through the Human Trafficking Control District Committee, in the presence of Minister of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens Nawal Kishor Sah Sudi, Ministry Secretary Bhattarai, and Joint Secretary Abha Shrestha Karna.
