Defense Minister Upreti shares ministry progress

KATHMANDU: Defense Minister Hari Prasad Upreti has shared that the ministry is working to instill hope among the people and build trust in government institutions.

He asserted that most of the projects under the ministry have recorded satisfactory progress.

The Defense Minister made these remarks during a press meet organized to share the ministry’s performance and achievements over the past year.

“The national pride projects have earned trust and credibility in the Nepali Army,” Minister Upreti said, informing the media about reforms made in policy, legal, institutional, and procedural fronts under his leadership.

According to him, the Kathmandu-Tarai expressway has recorded 34.82 percent physical progress, while the financial progress stands at 36.07 percent.

Similarly, the ministry has made significant progress in clearing arrears amounting to Rs 1.79 billion.

The expressway is being constructed in 13 segments. Contracts for 12 of these segments have been awarded, and work is underway.

In the past year, a modern library has been established to collect and preserve books and documents related to security and defense.

Ministry spokesperson Manoj Kumar Acharya informed that the ministry has amended military service regulations, drafted a bill for the Rastriya Sewa Dal, and endorsed work procedures for honorary and special promotions in the Nepali Army.

Additionally, the order to form the National Defense University Infrastructures Development Construction Committee was extended by one more year.

Ministry Secretary Kiran Raj Aryal and generals of the Nepali Army were present during the press meet.
