KATHMANDU: CPN-UML leader Dr. Bhim Rawal has raised concerns about recent political developments in Sudurpashchim Province, characterizing them as contrary to the spirit of the Constitution and divergent from the people’s aspirations.

Rawal’s comments follow a heated power struggle unfolding in Sudurpashchim, where two factions of the Nagarik Unmukti Party are vying to form the government with support from rival alliances.

While Nagarik Unmukti Party Chair Ranjita Shrestha has aligned with CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Center, another faction, backed by Resham Chaudhary, has joined forces with the Nepali Congress.

Rawal stressed the importance of upholding federalism, expressing disappointment over its compromised integrity in the current context.

“The ongoing power struggle between individuals competing for the Sudurpashchim Chief Minister position, with backing from different political parties, directly contradicts the Constitution’s spirit and the wishes of the people. Such actions undermine the fundamental principles of federalism, leading to a troubling situation,” he remarked on Sunday.
