Laxman Kishor Chaudhary asserts claim to Sudurpaschim’s CM post



KATHMANDU: Laxman Kishor Chaudhary, representing the Nagarik Unmukti Party, has formally declared his candidacy for the position of Chief Minister (CM) of Sudurpaschim Province on Sunday.

Chaudhary’s bid for the CM post has garnered support from a coalition comprising 18 lawmakers from the Nepali Congress, six from the Nagarik Unmukti Party, and four from the CPN (Unified Socialist).

The Sudurpaschim Provincial Assembly, which consists of 53 members, currently has 51 MPs. To secure the CM position, a minimum of 26 votes is required.

At present, the coalition boasts 31 MPs, comprising 11 from the Maoist Center, 10 from CPN-UML, six from the Nagarik Unmukti Party, and four from the Unified Socialist Party.

Additionally, the assembly includes 18 members from the Nepali Congress, along with representatives from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party and an independent MP.
