Maoist Center forming 99-member Central Committee

KATHMANDU: The ruling Maoist Center has put forward a proposal to form a 99-member Central Committee, as outlined in a draft prepared by the Statute Drafting Committee.

According to the draft, a total of 99 members would compose the Central Committee, with a significant portion—75 members, including office bearers—being chosen through direct elections.

The remaining members would be nominated.

This proposal was submitted to party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda”, who concurrently holds the position of Prime Minister.

The draft specifies the breakdown of the 75 directly elected members, encompassing various roles such as Chairman, Senior Vice-Chair, Vice-Chairmen (Open), Vice-Chair (Female), Vice-Chair (Inclusive), General Secretary, Deputy General Secretary, Secretary, and Treasurer.

In total, 23 officers will be elected through this process.

Additionally, the proposal suggests that 50 central members will be elected, while 24 central members will be nominated based on the recommendations of the central Chairman.

It should be noted that the existing Maoist statute allows for a committee of 199 members.

The final decision on this proposed restructuring will be determined by the Stature Assembly during its session scheduled from February 13-15.
