President appoints ambassadors to five countries

President Ram Chandra Poudel has appointed new ambassadors to Portugal, Spain, Belgium, South Korea, and South Africa.

Following recommendations from the Council of Ministers, President Poudel has appointed Prakash Mani Poudel as Ambassador to the Republic of Portugal; Sunil Nepal as Ambassador to Spain; Prof. Dr. Kapilman Shrestha as Ambassador to South Africa; Sewa Lamsal as Ambassador to Belgium; and Dr. Shivamaya Tumbahangphe as Nepal’s Resident Ambassador to the Republic of Korea.

Karnali Yaks edge out Lumbini Lions by 5 runs

Karnali Yaks narrowly defeated Lumbini Lions by 5 runs in an exciting match of the ongoing Nepal Premier League (NPL) at the Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur sports ground.

The win significantly boosted Karnali’s chances of advancing to the playoffs.

Chasing a target of 129 runs set by Karnali, Lumbini could only manage 123 runs, losing 7 wickets in their 20 overs.

Biratnagar’s 2nd win knocks Chitwan out of playoff contention

Biratnagar Kings’ second win in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) has dealt a major blow to Chitwan Rhinos’ playoff hopes. In the second match on Friday, Biratnagar defeated Chitwan by 51 runs, securing their second win of the tournament.

Biratnagar, which had been nearly eliminated from the race for the top four, now has four points from six matches, with two wins and four losses.

Biratnagar’s final match of the league will be against Kathmandu Gurkhas, who are still in contention for a playoff spot.

Buddhism serves as shining thread in Nepal-China relations: PM

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has emphasized that Buddhism serves as a shining thread in Nepal-China relations, weaving together the spiritual and cultural fabric of the two nations.

Addressing the Kathmandu Forum of the 9th Nanhai Buddhist Conference today, Prime Minister Oli highlighted that this thread not only strengthens the bond between Nepal and China but also promotes a lasting relationship based on goodwill and mutual understanding.

“Nepal and China share far more than just borders. We are united by a shared history, the majestic embrace of our mountains, the life-giving flow of our rivers, and the rich cultural ties that bind our peoples,” said Prime Minister Oli.

Case filed against 26 people, including PAC Chairman Pokharel’s wife, for cooperative fraud

A case was filed against 26 individuals, including Anjala Koirala, the wife of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman Hrishikesh Pokharel, in connection with a cooperative fraud at the Umagauri Agricultural Cooperative Society in Morang district.

The Morang District Court registered the case on Thursday, naming 26 defendants, including Anjala Koirala, who was a board member of the cooperative.

The Government Attorney’s Office, Morang, has charged them under Section 122 of the Cooperatives Act, 2074 BS.

Cricketer Brian Lara arrives in Nepal

Former West Indies cricketer Brian Lara arrived in Nepal to watch the ongoing Nepal Premier League (NPL).

The Nepal Cricket Association (KIA) has provided details about the arrangements for watching the NPL. The legendary West Indies cricketer landed in Kathmandu on Friday morning.

The 55-year-old left-handed batsman played 131 Tests, scoring 11,953 runs at an impressive average of 52.88.

FNJ elections to elect new leadership held

The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), the umbrella organization for Nepali journalists, held elections today to elect a new leadership.

Voting took place from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Friday. Candidates for the central president’s position include Devi Prasad Sapkota, Nirmala Sharma, Ramesh Bista, and Lal Singh Lama.

For the senior vice-president role, Govinda Prasad Chaulagain, Deepak Acharya, and Roshan Puri are in the race.

Muglin-Pokhara road to remain disrupted for five days

The Muglin-Pokhara road section in Shuklagandaki Municipality-2 will remain blocked for five days, starting Friday.

According to the Tanahun District Police Office, vehicular movement will be restricted from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm daily.

The disruption is part of efforts to facilitate the upgrading of the road between Jamuna Bazaar and Setipul in Kaski.

Gold price drops by Rs 1,200 per tola today

After a rise of Rs 4,500 in just three days, the price of gold decreased by Rs 1,200 per tola on Friday.

The current price of gold stood at Rs 153,000 per tola, according to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Federation. Silver prices also decreased today.

Kathmandu temperature drops to 3.1°C

The minimum temperature in Kathmandu Valley, which has been the coldest so far this year, dropped further on Friday.

At 5:45 am, the temperature in Kathmandu Valley was recorded at 3.4 degrees Celsius, and it dropped further to 3.1 degrees Celsius by 8:45 am.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division’s records, this is the lowest temperature recorded in Kathmandu this year.

Today, the lowest temperature recorded was minus 7 degrees Celsius (-7°C) in Jumla.
