CIB interrogates Dhanraj Gurung over misappropriation case in Miteri Cooperative

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Vice-President Dhanraj Gurung was questioned by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the police regarding his alleged involvement in the embezzlement case related to Miteri Cooperative in Lalitpur.

According to CIB spokesperson Hobindra Bogati, Gurung was summoned on Wednesday, and his statement was recorded extensively throughout the morning.

“We took a detailed statement, and he provided it cooperatively,” Bogati stated.

The chairperson of Miteri Cooperative, Kumbharaj Gurung, filed a complaint against Jyoti Gurung, who, as general manager, allegedly misappropriated 122 million rupees. Including interest, this sum has reportedly grown to 148.17 million rupees, and Kumbharaj has submitted relevant documents to the CIB.

Bogati further commented, “We reviewed all submitted evidence, including cooperative documents, the parliamentary committee’s report, and other proof. After analyzing these, we recorded statements throughout the day.”

When asked about Dhanraj Gurung’s involvement, Bogati replied, “We have taken his statement, but further investigation is ongoing.”

The case initially focused on Jyoti Gurung’s alleged misappropriation, but suspicions have arisen about Dhanraj’s involvement as well.

Members of opposition parties, including Rastriya Swatantra Party, Maoist Centre, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party, have accused Dhanraj and his former wife, Jyoti, of misusing cooperative funds, citing this as the reason behind their divorce.
