Chaos erupts in parliament after Speaker interrupts RSP lawmaker

KATHMANDU: Parliamentary proceedings descended into chaos after opposition lawmakers protested Speaker Dev Raj Ghimire’s decision to interrupt Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) lawmaker Hari Dhakal during his speech.

The disruption occurred when Speaker Ghimire stopped Dhakal as he was addressing issues related to road and air accidents.

Dhakal had requested time to discuss transportation safety but began speaking about the outstanding dues of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA).

Speaker Ghimire interrupted and disconnected Dhakal’s microphone, stating that the lawmaker had deviated from the agreed topic.

In response, lawmakers from the RSP and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) obstructed the parliamentary proceedings, arguing that the Speaker’s actions infringed on their rights.

Both RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane and RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden condemned the Speaker’s move.
