Nepali Congress sets criteria for ministerial selection

KATHMANDU: The Central Work Performance Committee of the Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to set criteria for selecting ministers for the new government.

During a meeting chaired by NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, the committee determined that the criteria will include geographical representation, provincial and inclusive balance, qualifications, and contributions.

The party is currently preparing for the allocation of ministerial responsibilities and the upcoming swearing-in ceremony for the Prime Minister and ministers.

The meeting also formally agreed to join the next government, according to party spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat.

Additionally, the committee urged the government to intensify the search for those missing following the tragic bus accident in Chitwan on Friday morning.

President Ramchandra Paudel has called for the presentation of a prime ministerial claim by Sunday evening, in accordance with Article 76 (2) of the Constitution, after Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ failed to secure a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives meeting on Friday.

On the same day, CPN (UML) Chair KP Sharma Oli staked his claim for the Prime Minister’s position, supported by the NC.
