KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has refrained from mentioning the support of fringe parties while presenting a claim for the post of Prime Minister.
On Friday night, Oli submitted his claim to President Ramchandra Paudel with only the backing of UML and Nepali Congress (NC) members of parliament (MPs).
Oli garnered the support of 166 MPs, comprising 88 from NC and 78 from UML.
He submitted a letter to the President requesting appointment as Prime Minister under Article 76 (2) of the Constitution, asserting that he had a majority of MPs on his side.
The coalition between NC and UML claims to include parties such as Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP), Janamat Party, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP), and JSP Nepal.
However, Oli sought NC support exclusively in the process of forming the government.
A leader explained that Oli opted to exclude smaller parties due to their potential instability and the complications that could arise if they withdrew support, which would necessitate another vote of confidence.
Oli is expected to be appointed Prime Minister on Sunday, with the oath-taking ceremony scheduled for the same day.
