ACC Premier Cup: Nepal facing Qatar Today



KATHMANDU: Nepal, which made a victorious start in the ACC Premier Cup, will be playing its second match against Qatar on Saturday.

After defeating Malaysia in the first match by five wickets on Friday, Nepal is set to compete against Qatar today.

The match against Qatar will commence at 4:15 PM in Oman.

With the first win against Malaysia, Nepal has secured 2 points in Group A.

In the match held on Friday, Nepal successfully chased down the target of 144 runs set by Malaysia in 19.2 overs.

Kushal Bhurtel contributed 24 runs with three boundaries, while Aarif Sheikh scored 32 runs off 35 balls with four boundaries.

Gulshan Jha, who faced seven balls, scored 19 runs including two sixes and a boundary.

Captain Rohit Paudel scored 28, Dipendra Singh Airee contributed 20, and Kushal Malla added 7 runs. Sandeep Jora was not-out with 12 runs.

It was a special day for Nepal Captain as he made his place as the third Nepali cricketer to score 1000 runs in T20I cricket.

For Malaysia, Virandeep Singh took 3 wickets, while Muhammad Wafiq and Pawandeep Singh took one wicket each.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Malaysia managed to score 143 runs losing 3 wickets in 20 overs.

For Malaysia, captain Virandeep Singh scored the highest 68 runs, followed by Sharvin Muniandy with 41 runs.

Muhammad Amir contributed 16 runs.

For Nepal, Dipendra Singh Airee took 2 wickets, while Abinash Bohora claimed one wicket.

Nepal, in Group A of the Premier Cup, will play its third match against Hong Kong on April 15 and the fourth match against Saudi Arabia on April 17. Similarly, Group B comprises Bahrain, Cambodia, Kuwait, Oman, and United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals. The final match will be held on April 21.

The winner of the competition will qualify for the T20 Asia Cup 2025.
