Qatar Airways to begin flights from GBIA today

KATHMANDU: Qatar Airways is beginning operations from Gautam Buddha International Airport (GBIA) in Bhairahawa starting today (Tuesday).

This will increase the number of airlines offering regular international flights from Bhairahawa to five.

Prior to this, Qatar Airways had been operating three daily flights between Qatar and Kathmandu.

The new Qatar Airways route will connect Doha, Bhairahawa, and Kathmandu, with flights scheduled to operate daily.

This addition brings the total number of airlines offering international services from Bhairahawa to five, joining Nepal Airlines, Jazeera Airways, FlyDubai, and Thai AirAsia, all of which are already operating regular flights from the airport.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), 19 international flights have been granted permission to operate between November 12 and 30.

Gyanendra Bhul, Co-Spokesperson for CAAN, confirmed that Qatar Airways will operate the Doha-Bhairahawa-Kathmandu-Doha route seven days a week.

The Qatar Airways flight will arrive in Bhairahawa at 2:45 p.m., then depart for Kathmandu at 4:45 p.m., and continue on to Doha from Kathmandu at 6:55 p.m.

Other airlines currently operating from Bhairahawa include FlyDubai, which runs daily flights with arrivals at 2:30 a.m. and departures at 3:00 am, and azeera Airways, which flies between Bhairahawa and Kuwait three days a week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

Likewise, Nepal Airlines, will begin operating a new Kathmandu-Bhairahawa-Dubai route starting this Saturday evening, with flights scheduled four days a week on Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; and Thai AirAsia will operate flights every Monday and Thursday.

The airport, which officially opened on June 16, 2022 faced delays in becoming fully operational for a long period.
