Hong Kong citizen arrested in 60 kg gold smuggling case



KATHMANDU: A foreign national has been arrested in connection with a 60 kg 716 grams gold smuggling case seized by police on July 18, 2023.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police arrested 55-year-old Mintsing Terence Sei, a Hong Kong citizen and the Managing Director of Waldo Casino, located at Waldo Hotel in Thamel, Kathmandu.

Sey faces charges of customs evasion and organized crime, including illegal gold customs evasion under the Nepal Rastra Bank Act.

The police have filed a case against him and others involved, citing illegal transactions through the casino amounting to over Rs 30 billion for illegal gold transactions.

According to the police, he was brought before the Kathmandu District Court, which ordered his remand at the Central Prison Office, Sundhara.
