TikTok seeks Policy Manager for Nepal

KATHMANDU: TikTok is seeking applications for a Policy Manager to oversee its operations in Nepal.

This move comes as part of TikTok’s efforts to address the 10-month ban imposed by the Nepalese government.

By appointing a high-level Policy Manager, TikTok said it aims to establish a stronger relationship with Nepalese authorities and navigate the regulatory landscape effectively.

The appointment of this Policy Manager is a strategic step following TikTok’s application to lift the ban.

As part of this commitment, TikTok has agreed to open an office in Nepal and enhance its monitoring of content on the platform.

The selected candidate will be based in Dubai, UAE, but will focus on managing TikTok’s interests in Nepal.

TikTok said it is looking for candidates with significant experience in public policy, government relations, and advocacy.

The ideal applicant should have a deep understanding of the legislative process and technology policy, according to the announcement.

Proficiency in both Nepali and English, including written and spoken communication, is essential, it said.

Furthermore, the candidate should possess advanced education or practical experience in political science, international relations, government, public affairs, or related fields, according to TikTok.

Experience working with international organizations or technology companies, along with the ability to analyze and communicate the business implications of public policy, is also required, it added.

In addition to these qualifications, the Policy Manager needs to have excellent writing skills and the ability to simplify complex policy issues.

According to the announcement, the role demands strong teamwork capabilities, quick decision-making skills, and the ability to use discretion effectively.

The Policy Manager, the TikTok announcement said, will play a crucial role in building and maintaining relationships with government officials, policymakers, and other key stakeholders.

Responsibilities for the Policy Manager will include implementing strategies to engage with policymakers on issues related to TikTok and social media, identifying and analyzing relevant policies and legislative proposals, and clarifying TikTok’s policy positions through various means, including briefing papers and consultation processes, it said.

It has also said that the Policy Manager will collaborate closely with TikTok’s PR, Legal, Product, and Engineering teams, and establish meaningful connections with industry organizations, academics, and NGOs in line with TikTok’s strategic objectives.

TikTok has posted the job opening on its website, though details regarding the service facility associated with the position have not been disclosed.
