President Paudel summons constitutional experts to discuss formation of new govt

KATHMANDU: President Ram Chandra Poudel has convened constitutional experts to deliberate on the formation of a new government following Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s failure to secure a vote of confidence on Friday.

The Nepali Congress and CPN-UML are now poised to form a new government, with CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli expected to become the next Prime Minister of the country.

According to a source at the Office of the President, President Poudel has called upon experts including Dr. Bhimarjun Acharya, Bipin Adhikari, Harihar Dahal, Shambu Thapa, and Gopal Krishna Ghimire for the discussion.

The meeting is scheduled for 6 PM this evening at the Office of the President.

There is a disagreement among the constitutional experts regarding the process for forming the new government.

Some argue in favor of Article 76 (2) of the Constitution of Nepal, which would lead to KP Sharma Oli becoming the next Prime Minister.

Others advocate for Article 76 (3), under which President of the Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba, would assume the Prime Ministership.
