PM Dahal seeking vote of confidence today

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is seeking a vote of confidence today.

According to Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, Prime Minister Dahal will present a proposal for a vote of confidence today, by Article 100, Clause 2 of the Constitution.

Ghimire mentioned that the House meeting on July 12 has been called specifically for this purpose.

Prime Minister Dahal, facing a shortage of support following the withdrawal of support from the CPN-UML government, is set to seek another vote of confidence from Parliament.

A majority of 138 MPs need to vote in favor to secure confidence in the 275-member House of Representatives.

Currently, Prime Minister Dahal has the backing of only 63 votes, including 32 from the Maoist Center, 21 from the Rastriya Swatantra Party, and 10 from the Unified Socialist Party.

The Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, having formed a new alliance, have instructed their MPs not to vote in favor of the Prime Minister.

Additionally, the RPP, Janata Samajwadi Party, Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, and others have also decided against supporting Prime Minister Dahal in the confidence vote.

Meanwhile, the Janamat Party has decided not to give a vote of confidence to Prime Minister Dahal.

The spokesperson of the party, Dr. Sharadsingh Yadav, informed that the party’s meeting decided not to give a vote of confidence to Prime Minister Dahal.

There are six lawmakers from the party in the House of Representatives.
