Bangladesh decides to import electricity from Nepal

KATHMANDU: Bangladesh has officially decided to import electricity from Nepal, initially agreeing to purchase 40 megawatts.

On Tuesday, the 15th meeting of the Bangladeshi Cabinet, chaired by Finance Minister Abdul Hossain Mohammad Ali at the Bangladesh Secretariat, approved the proposal to import 40 megawatts of electricity from Nepal.

Since the electricity has to transported via India, the Bangladesh government has decided to pay India a commercial margin of RS 0.059 per unit.

Nepal has been working for a long time to export electricity to Bangladesh.

India has committed to providing a route for Nepal to export electricity to Bangladesh.
