KATHMANDU: A meeting of all Supreme Court (SC) judges is scheduled for today (Wednesday), convened by Chief Justice (CJ) Bishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, with the main agenda focused on discussing the title of senior advocate.
According to Supreme Court officials, it is unlikely that a decision regarding the senior advocate title will be reached during today’s meeting.
The committee, chaired by Supreme Court (SC) Justice Prakashman Singh Raut, has recommended granting senior titles to approximately 150 advocates.
The list was circulated to all Supreme Court judges 15 days ago for their feedback.
During Wednesday’s meeting, judges’ opinions and suggestions on the matter will be thoroughly discussed, sources said.
An official from the Supreme Court stated that the Full Court may consider forming another committee to compile a final report after further review of the opinions and suggestions received.
The title of senior advocate is granted by the Supreme Court based on criteria such as seniority, active continuity in the profession, adherence to the code of conduct, and no criminal convictions.
