Nepal government expenditure reaches Rs. 909.39 billion in nine months



KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Finance, Financial Comptroller General Office (FCGO) reported that the Nepal Government’s total expenditure stood at Rs. 909.39 billion during the nine months of 2023/24.

This marks a slight decrease of 3.6 percent compared to the growth of 18.7 percent observed in the previous fiscal year.

Breakdown of Expenditure:

  • Recurrent expenditure: Rs. 644.03 billion
  • Capital expenditure: Rs. 97.38 billion
  • Financial expenditure: Rs. 167.99 billion

During this period, the total revenue mobilization of the Nepal Government, including the amount to be transferred to provincial and local governments, amounted to Rs. 748.04 billion. This represents a growth of 9.4 percent, contrasting with a decrease of 13.4 percent in the same period of the last fiscal year.

Breakdown of Revenue:

  • Tax revenue: Rs. 671.12 billion
  • Non-tax revenue: Rs. 76.93 billion

Provincial Government Expenditure and Resource Mobilization:

In the review period, total expenditure of provincial governments reached Rs. 78.13 billion, while resource mobilization amounted to Rs. 132.28 billion.

The total resource mobilization of provincial governments includes grants and revenue transferred from the Nepal Government amounting to Rs. 98.29 billion, along with revenue and other receipts of the provincial governments totaling Rs. 33.99 billion.
