Kamirita Sherpa achieves historic 29th ascent of Mt Everest

KATHMANDU: Kamirita Sherpa shattered his record by conquering Mount Everest for an unprecedented 29th time.

Seven Summit Treks announced Kamirita’s triumphant ascent, marking the occasion at 7:25 am on Sunday.

With this remarkable feat, Kamirita cements his status as the most seasoned climber of Mount Everest.

Hailing from the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality in Thame, Solukhumbu, the 54-year-old mountaineer has surpassed his previous milestone, setting a new pinnacle in mountain climbing.

In the annals of Everest’s 71-year history, Kamirita stands unrivaled, holding the record for the highest number of ascents.

Last year, Pasang Dawa Sherpa of Solukhumbu achieved 27 climbs, yet remains undecided about attempting Everest this season.

Mountains like Mt. Everest symbolize Nepal’s pride, attracting numerous adventurers from around the globe.

Kamirita, a record-breaking climber, emphasizes the need to preserve and respect these natural wonders, advocating for their conservation rather than exploitation.

Kamirita’s illustrious journey began with his inaugural ascent of Everest on May 13, 1994, and has since been marked by numerous milestones.

He ascended Everest twice in the spring of 2079 BS, adding to his impressive tally.

Notably, Kamirita’s conquests extend beyond Mt. Everest, with eight ascents of Manaslu, three of Lhotse, one of Ketu, and a total of 40 successful climbs on the world’s highest peaks.

As spring beckons climbers to Mt. Everest’s slopes, the challenge to safeguard this legacy intensifies.

While Pasang Dawa Sherpa’s potential return poses a threat to Kamirita’s record, the spirit of adventure continues to drive mountaineers to Nepal’s iconic peaks.
