Triangular T20 Series: Nepal opts to bat first against PNG

KATHMANDU: In a match of the ongoing triangular T20 series in Hong Kong, Nepal has won the toss and elected to bat against Papua New Guinea (PNG).

Nepal, currently in Hong Kong for the series, is eager to secure their first victory.

The triangular series features Nepal, the host Hong Kong, and PNG as the participating teams.

The initial match on Sunday faced rain interruptions, resulting in Nepal and Hong Kong sharing points.

In the first match, Hong Kong, having lost the toss and asked to bat, posted a score of 65 runs in eight overs, losing two wickets.

Unfortunately, the game was abandoned due to rain, marking the second cancellation in the series.

Consequently, Nepal and Hong Kong each earned a point.

The series is set to continue until Wednesday, serving as crucial preparation for the Nepalese team ahead of the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup scheduled for June.

Leading the team under Rohit Paudel’s captaincy, the squad features players such as Kushal Bhurtel, Binod Bhandari, Gulshan Jha, Sandeep Zora, Arif Sheikh, Bibek Yadav, Karan KC, Abinash Bohora, Rashid Khan, Pratish JC, Sagar Dhakal, Akash Chand, and Lokesh Bam.

Noteworthy exclusions from the lineup for this series include Dipendra Singh Aire, Asif Sheikh, Sompal Kami, Kushal Malla, Anil Shah, and Lalit Narayan Rajbanshi, who have been given a well-deserved rest.

Prior to the triangular T20 series, Nepal faced defeat in the Friendship Cup against the host team Hong Kong last Saturday.
