Janakpur bowled out for 51 as Sudurpaschim claims victory

KATHMANDU: Janakpur Bolts suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Sudurpaschim Royals in their Nepal Premier League (NPL) match on Wednesday, marking the end of their unbeaten run.

Chasing a modest target of 124 runs set by Sudurpaschim at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground in Kirtipur, Janakpur was bundled out for just 51 runs in 12.1 overs, losing by a staggering 72 runs.

This defeat also saw Janakpur’s unbeaten streak come to a halt.

Earlier, Sudurpaschim, who were sent in to bat first, also endured a difficult innings but made a strong comeback through their bowling attack, handing Janakpur their first loss.

Sudurpaschim’s batting performance was underwhelming as they could only manage 123/9 in 20 overs.

In response, Janakpur’s batting collapsed spectacularly. The team could not recover from early setbacks and failed to reach even 60 runs.

With this win, Sudurpaschim tied with Janakpur on 8 points in the standings, but they now lead due to a superior run rate.

Earlier in the tournament, Sudurpaschim had defeated Biratnagar Kings by 90 runs, Kathmandu Gurkhas by 73 runs, and Lumbini Lions by 45 runs, although they were stunned by Chitwan Rhinos in a 33-run loss.

Janakpur, meanwhile, had suffered defeats to Biratnagar Kings and Karnali Yaks, both by 8 wickets.

They had also secured narrow victories against Pokhara Avengers and Lumbini Lions.
