KMC launches Ichchhumati clean-up drive

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has intensified the river cleaning campaign in the metropolitan area.

Today, the environment department under the metropolis has cleaned the Ichchhumati (Tukucha) which flows through the central area of the metropolis.

Sanumaya Maharjan, deputy director of the department, informed that the Bhadrakali, Singha Durbar areas of Ichchhumati were cleaned.

The garbage gathered in Ichchhumati was removed by the sanitation workers of the metropolis and piled on the side of the river for transporting it to the dumping site.

The department had previously cleaned the rivers including Ichchhumati in the same way in June.

Less than six months later, the non-biodegradable garbage such as bottles, plastic, etc. accumulated in the river was cleaned.

It is said that the metropolis is also preparing to book the litterers for legal action. The metropolis has been cleaning the rivers like Bagmati, Bishnumati, Rudramati, Balkhu and others flowing through the Kathmandu valley in this way.

Meanwhile, the Bagmati clean-up campaign, which started at the civilian level, has entered six hundred weeks.
