Rabi warns PM: Ousting Deputy Speaker can be detrimental

Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), Rabi Lamichhane, has urged Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to refrain from taking steps to remove the Deputy Speaker, describing such a move as a “suicide goal.”

In a statement to the media on Wednesday, Lamichhane revealed that he met with Prime Minister Oli to inquire about the ongoing discussions concerning the Deputy Speaker.

He conveyed his concern that removing the Deputy Speaker would be detrimental to the ruling parties.

Deputy Speaker Rana should step down: Nepali Congress

The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) party has called for Deputy Speaker Indira Rana to step down.

Chief Whip Shyam Ghimire said that a decision was reached during a meeting held at the residence of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, concluding that it would be appropriate for Rana to resign.

Ghimire stated that the NC has decided to move forward based on the consensus of the ruling coalition regarding this matter.

Constitutional Council meeting postponed until Friday

The Constitutional Council meeting, initially scheduled for Wednesday at 5 p.m. and convened by Prime Minister KP Oli, has been postponed to Friday.

According to a source close to the Prime Minister, the rescheduled meeting will now take place at 5 p.m. on Friday.

As outlined in the Constitution of Nepal, the Prime Minister serves as the Chairman of the Constitutional Council.

Deputy Speaker should be allowed to clarify in Parliament: RSP

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has stated that Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Indira Rana Magar, should be allowed to provide an explanation in Parliament regarding the letter she reportedly sent to the American Embassy.

Acting Spokesperson of RSP, Manish Jha, stated that the party has resolved to allow Deputy Speaker Rana Magar to clarify whether she used the Parliament Secretariat’s letterhead for the letter in question during the House of Representatives meeting.

NEPSE index slides further with 22.73-point drop

The NEPSE Index maintained its downward trend, decreasing by 22.73 points (0.86%) to end the day at 2,610.21.

This drop follows a previous session’s decline of 13.09 points. The trading day began with the index at 2,636.30 points, peaked at 2,651.19 points, and then fell to a low of 2,601.91 points before closing at 2,610.21 points.

During the session, 317 companies were involved in 87,036 transactions, generating a total turnover of Rs. 6.85 billion.

Lawmaker Rasaili slips up and calls Deputy Speaker “Indira Gandhi”

MP Ranendra Baraili mistakenly referred to Deputy Speaker Indira Ranagar as Indira Gandhi during Wednesday’s House of Representatives meeting.

While addressing the meeting, Baraili accidentally used the name of the former Indian Prime Minister “Indira Gandhi” instead of the Deputy Speaker’s correct name.

“There was a little progress in the House yesterday because of the Honorable Deputy Speaker Indira Gandhi,” Baraili said, causing some confusion among his colleagues.

As other MPs corrected him, he awkwardly responded, “Oh…Indira Rana (laughs) sorry,” in an attempt to rectify his slip.

People’s interest in Maoist Centre increasing: Prachanda

Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ Chairperson of the Maoist Centre, has claimed that his party is experiencing increasing public interest nationwide.

Speaking at a program in Mahottari on Wednesday, Dahal attributed this surge in attraction to the achievements of the Maoist-led government and its agenda.

Dahal emphasized that the Maoist party has established itself as a key force advocating for identity, citing its commitment to good governance, social justice, and prosperity as factors enhancing its appeal.

Election for NA Committee Chairs to be held on Sept. 16

The election for the post of chair of the Legislation Management Committee and the Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee under the National Assembly is to be held on coming September 16.

Chairperson of the National Assembly, Narayan Prasad Dahal said that the elections and the date have been fixed as per Rule 150 of the National Assembly Rules, 2075.
