Deputy Speaker Rana should step down: Nepali Congress

KATHMANDU: The ruling Nepali Congress (NC) party has called for Deputy Speaker Indira Rana to step down.

Chief Whip Shyam Ghimire said that a decision was reached during a meeting held at the residence of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, concluding that it would be appropriate for Rana to resign.

Ghimire stated that the NC has decided to move forward based on the consensus of the ruling coalition regarding this matter.

The Nepali Congress and CPN-UML are prepared to impeach Deputy Speaker Rana from Parliament with a two-thirds majority if she does not resign voluntarily.

Both parties have already begun collecting signatures from their respective parliamentarians at the Parliament Building on Tuesday in preparation for this action.
