KATHMANDU: Members of the House of Representatives (HoR) raised several pressing issues during the zero hour of the lower house today, addressing a wide range of public concerns.

MPs drew the government’s attention to matters including the rescue of mules stranded after the cable of a suspension bridge over the Karnali River snapped, and the growing shortage of drinking water in the Terai-Madhesh region.

The MPs emphasized the urgency of various issues:

Ensuring compensation for losses caused by a recent strong wind in the Madesh Province.

Rescuing Nepalis detained in Tibet.

Prem Suwal demanded that the Prime Minister and ministers inform the House about the agenda of their foreign visits prior to embarking on such trips.

Basudev Ghimire highlighted the soaring temperatures in the Terai region and called for intensified afforestation and conservation of ponds and rivers.

Bindhyabasini Kansakar urged the government to promote mental health in society by launching a dedicated hotline service.

Bina Devi called for the provision of irrigation facilities in the Madesh Province, while Binita Kathayat reported that around 1,300 households in north Mugu are facing a drinking water crisis, demanding immediate government intervention.

Bimala Subedi requested the government to accelerate roadway construction efforts in Nuwakot.

Pushpa Bahadur Shah expressed concern over the deaths of mules awaiting rescue following the snap of the suspension bridge over the Karnali River in Achham.

Out of 24 trapped mules, 12 were rescued alive. He highlighted that the suspension of movement along the bridge has caused significant inconvenience to locals and stressed the need for prompt repairs.

Purna Bahadur Gharti Magar voiced concerns over contractor negligence in development projects in Baglung, while Pratiksa Tiwari urged the government to focus on alleviating poverty in the Kathmandu Valley rather than evicting indigent communities.
