Delhi Capitals’ Captain Rishabh Pant fined and suspended for IPL code of conduct breach

KATHMANDU: In a recent development, Mr. Rishabh Pant, the Captain of Delhi Capitals, has been fined and suspended for one match due to breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 56 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on May 7, 2024.

The disciplinary action was taken as it was Delhi Capitals’ third offence of the season regarding minimum over-rate violations under the IPL’s Code of Conduct.

Rishabh Pant has been fined INR 30 Lac and suspended for one match as a consequence of this breach.

Furthermore, the other members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, have each been fined either INR 12 Lac or 50% of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.

In response to this ruling, the Delhi Capitals filed an appeal challenging the decision of the Match Referee in accordance with Article 8 of the IPL Code of Conduct.

However, the appeal was referred to the BCCI Ombudsman for review.

After conducting a virtual hearing, the Ombudsman affirmed that the decision of the Match Referee remains final and binding.

This incident underscores the importance of adhering to the rules and regulations set forth by the IPL to maintain the integrity and spirit of the game.
