KATHMANDU: CPN (UML) Chairperson KP Sharma Oli acknowledged the detrimental impact of political instability on the country’s development during a national seminar organized by the UML’s central department of physical infrastructures and transportation today.
Chair Oli, also the former Prime Minister, stressed the importance of optimizing infrastructure to foster entrepreneurship and create employment opportunities.
He highlighted the significance of establishing small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs) based on agriculture and pledged to enact necessary policies and programs to enhance physical infrastructures in the upcoming fiscal year.
“While infrastructures lay the foundation for development, they alone do not constitute development,” argued the septuagenarian leader, noting the progress made in infrastructure development such as railways, airways, electricity extension, and communication services.
Chairperson Oli lauded the initiatives undertaken by his party-led government at the local level, particularly the campaign to connect every local center with blacktopped roads.
UML Vice-Chairperson Surendra Pandey emphasized the need to improve capital expenditure efficiency and urged for the endorsement and implementation of proposals put forth by the National Planning Commission for development projects.
He called for unity among all political parties in advancing the development agenda.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Raghubir Mahaseth underscored the importance of politicians prioritizing national interests over partisan interests to drive the country’s development forward.
He pledged to expedite the development of physical infrastructures to achieve significant progress in the sector.
During the seminar, UML central member Krishna Bahadur KC announced plans to submit recommendations provided by experts in the road and transport sectors.
Experts including Dr. Chandra Bahadur Shrestha and Guru Bhattarai in the railway and water transportation sector, Sushil Gyawali and Om Sharma in the construction and engineering sector, and Dadhi Kharel and Shreeram Dhakal in the transportation sector are slated to present working papers.
