PM Dahal to face vote of confidence on March 13
Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is scheduled to take a vote of confidence in the House of Representatives meeting on March 13. The Prime Minister’s secretariat on Sunday sent a letter to the Federal Parliament requesting for the necessary arrangement to this regard. It should be noted that in a parliamentary party meeting held on Saturday, PM Dahal discussed the matter with party leaders, indicating his readiness to seek a vote of confidence by the specified date.
RSP to contest in Ilam-2 by-election, no candidacy in Bajhang
The ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to file candidacy in Ilam-2 by election to be held on April 27. However, the party has opted not to contest in the Bajhang constituency of Sudurpashchim province for the province assembly by-election. This decision was made during a central committee meeting held on Monday. According to Pratibha Rawal, the co-spokesperson of RSP, the party made the decision regarding by-election participation.
Economy: External sector remains challenging, internal sector recuperating
Country’s economy which remained sluggish in the past couple of quarters due to COVID-19 impacts, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, political instability and some other factors is now gradually on track. As per the recent data shared by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central bank, the external sector of the country’s economy is in comfort zone. However, indicators of the public finance are not up to the mark. Poor revenue collection, limited capital expenditure, burgeoning recurrent expenditure and increasing public debt are the key challenges that the country’s economy is facing now.
Church Boys United triumphs in Jhapa Gold Cup with a 3-0 victory over APF
Church Boys United emerged as the new champions of the Jhapa Gold Cup football tournament, defeating the Armed Police Force (APF) Football Club 3-0 in the final match held in Jhapa on Monday. Nigerian striker Abayomi Olusesi Fakunle scored two goals, and Rajesh Pariyar added another to seal the championship for Church Boys. Church Boys, the champions of the Martyr’s Memorial ‘A’ Division League, remained undefeated in the tournament, securing the title in their debut participation. The winning team, Church Boys United, received a cash prize of Rs 1.3 million, while the runner-up APF FC had to settle for Rs 700,000.
Eight Tanahu youths allegedly join Russian Army, families lose contact
Eight individuals from Tanahu, who reportedly traveled abroad on visit visas and were recruited into the Russian Army, have lost contact with their families. Among them, three are from Byas Municipality, one from Devghat Municipality, two from Bhanu Municipality, one from Shuklagandaki, and one from Myagde Rural Municipality. Reportedly, one has joined the Ukrainian forces. The families of these individuals have sought assistance from the Safer Migration (SaMi) Program Tanahu in locating their loved ones.
NC issues whip to MPs to vote against PM’s confidence motion
The Nepali Congress (NC) has taken a decisive stance against Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal’s vote of confidence in the House of Representatives. Nepali Congress Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak issued a statement today, instructing party MPs to vote against the confidence motion during the House meeting scheduled for March 13. This move comes in the wake of Prime Minister Dahal’s decision to sever ties with the Nepali Congress and form a new alliance that includes the CPN-UML, Rastriya Swatantra Party, Janata Samajwadi Party, and Unified Socialist, in addition to the Maoist Center.
Policeman loses life in detainee escape attempt in Darchula
A police constable lost his life during an attempt by a detainee to escape from police detention. The incident occurred at the District Police Office in Darchula when the detainee, Umesh Singh Kunwar from Mahakali Municipality-1, tried to flee during police interrogation. According to the District Police Office, Kunwar, who was in the detention cell, attempted to escape, resulting in injuries to the police constable who was handcuffed to prevent Kunwar from fleeing.
As many as 400 foreign climbers set to climb Mt Everest this Spring
More than 400 foreign climbers are gearing up to ascend Mount Everest, the world’s tallest peak, from the Nepal side during the upcoming spring season. Rishi Bhandari, the General Secretary of the Expedition Operators Association Nepal, said that the compiled expedition bookings indicate a minimum of 400 foreign climbers will be attempting the ascent.
