CHITWAN: Minister for Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs, Dhanraj Gurung, has asserted that significant improvements have occurred since the inception of the current government.
Despite notable progress, he acknowledged the persisting challenges in the country.
Speaking at a press conference organized by the Nepali Congress Chitwan Information and Publicity Department today, Gurung highlighted the challenging context during the formation of the present coalition government.
“The situation was very challenging at the time of the government’s formation. There were concerns everywhere, with Nepal being likened to Sri Lanka,” he said.
Minister Gurung added, “Since our inclusion in the Cabinet, we have been gradually steering the country away from the difficult situation, although it is not entirely resolved.”
Minister Gurung stated. He admitted that certain works could not be executed according to the people’s aspirations due to challenging circumstances. “We have not been able to accomplish as much as we wished; I acknowledge that,” he added.
Emphasizing the need for an independent judiciary, Minister Gurung stated that judges cannot make arbitrary decisions simply because of the judiciary’s independence.
He insisted that the Judicial Council would take action if judges made errors. Regarding the investigation into individuals victimized by cooperatives, he clarified that Nepal Police and the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) are actively involved, ensuring that those found guilty will be held accountable.
“The government will not absolve individuals involved in forgery, regardless of their political influence,” he asserted.
In a separate remark, Minister Gurung, also the Nepali Congress Vice President, reassured the public amidst the ‘Congress in the Community’ campaign’s perceived hopelessness.
“Those committed to democracy need not panic or lose hope. Public opinion is dynamic, and politics is akin to a flowing river; there are ups and downs, and we should not panic,” he said.
