CAN suspends Sandeep Lamichhane from all cricket matches after rape conviction

In the wake of the Kathmandu District Court’s decision to sentence cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane to eight years in prison for his involvement in a rape case, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has taken decisive action by suspending Lamichhane from both domestic and international cricket. CAN’s decision comes after Lamichhane communicated his personal choice to step down from the Nepali Men’s National Cricket Team following the court’s verdict. Lamichhane had expressed his unwillingness to continue his participation in the national team in light of the legal proceedings against him.

‘Gaushala 26’ files complaint at CIB against identity disclosure

The victim in the Sandeep Lamichhane rape case, known as ‘Gaushala 26,’ has officially lodged a complaint with the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) against individuals who have been publicizing her identity on various social media platforms. Alleging a violation of her right to privacy and dignity, ‘Gaushala 26’ accused these individuals of engaging in internet-related crimes. The complaint was filed at CIB, with SP Pashupati Kumar Ray confirming an ongoing investigation into the matter.

Hearing against accused Bamjan begins in Sarlahi

Ram Bahadur Bamjan, the defendant facing allegations of murder and sexual violence, made his appearance before the Sarlahi District Court as the legal proceedings against him commenced on Thursday. Following the issuance of an arrest warrant by the Sarlahi District Court, Bamjan was brought before the court to face the charges.

Chinese Ambassador Song holds talks with RSP Chairman Lamichhane

A meeting transpired between Rabi Lamichhane, Chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Paryt (RSP), and the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song on Thursday. In the meeting held at the RSP’s office, Banasthali, other leaders included Shishir Khanal, Member of the House of Representatives and Head of the Party’s International Relations Department; lawmaker Nisha Dangi, also the Head of the RSP’s Infrastructure Development Department.

PM Dahal implements sweeping staff reduction

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has taken steps to streamline operations in his secretariat by removing 18 staffers, encompassing both government and private positions, effective Tuesday. Sources reveal that this move was initiated to enhance the efficiency of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat. “The Prime Minister has taken this step to streamline the Secretariat by removing 18 people from various positions,” a source at the Prime Minister’s Office, said.

NEB confirms SEE to take place in early Chaitra, routine in Magh

Putting an end to speculations about the postponement of Secondary Education Examinations (SEE), the National Examination Board (NEB) has clarified that the exams will proceed as scheduled, starting from the first week of Chaitra. NEB Chairman Mahashram Sharma, speaking at an event organized by the Education Journalist Network Nepal (EJON), assured that the routine for the exams would be published by the first week of Magh.

NEPSE experiences slight downturn of 0.03%

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Index reported a marginal decrease of 0.03%, equivalent to 0.62 points, settling at 2,088.99 points compared to the previous day’s close. In contrast, the index had registered a gain of 9.50 points in the preceding trading session. The day commenced with the index opening at 2,091.28 and fluctuated between an intraday low of 2,082.49 and a high of 2,106.43.

12 teams participating in Aaha Rara Pokhara Gold Cup

The 23rd Aaha Rara Pokhara Gold Cup is set to host 12 participating teams during its upcoming edition. Sahara Club Pokhara, the organizing body, announced this decision during a press conference held today in Pokhara. Four rhino horn smugglers arrested

Chitwan National Park (CNP) officials have arrested four rhino horn smugglers who were absconding. They had smuggled the rhino horns at different times. Those arrested are Ganesh Kumal, Chakka Jetha, Sonam Singh Waiba and Mukta Lal Pun Magar.
