International Human Rights Day observed today

KATHMANDU: International Human Rights Day is being observed today with various programs organized across the country.

The day commemorates the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

This year’s theme is: “Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now.”

The Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs has announced that individuals and institutions making significant contributions to human rights will be honored on this occasion.

The award funds are drawn from the Human Rights Award Fund, established in accordance with the Human Rights Award Fund Operation Regulation, 2075.

However, no awards will be presented this year, as the Ministry did not find any individuals or institutions that met the criteria and procedures outlined in the regulation.

Komal Bahadur Khatri, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson at the Ministry, stated that the Ministry is currently conducting a study to assess the need to increase the award amount.
