KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has criticized the ruling coalition’s efforts to remove Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar, deeming it unacceptable.

Speaking during Tuesday’s parliamentary session, RSP Chief Whip Santosh Pariyar voiced his concerns about the possible removal of Deputy Speaker Rana.

He asserted that major parties appear to be undermining democracy through behind-the-scenes consultations.

“We have only heard rumors so far, but if you believe that this state is governed solely by numerical power, then no force in the world can override the sovereign will of the people,” Pariyar stated.

He warned that attempts to achieve a majority in the Constitutional Council might involve removing the Deputy Speaker.

“Are political parties now consulting on which institutions to dismantle? Don’t undermine democracy. The RSP will continue to defend it. If democracy is compromised through these consultations, the RSP believes that the Nepali people will rise to defend it,” he warned.

Pariyar further cautioned that the Congress-UML might face repercussions for their actions.

“If you attempt to undermine democracy and violate constitutional rights, remember that you will fall into the trap you have set for yourselves. Today may seem easy, but tomorrow could bring difficulties,” Pariyar warned.

He condemned the current government’s approach, labeling it an attack on democracy.

“It is unacceptable for political parties to conspire to impeach the Deputy Speaker. Using majority power to remove someone from their position under the guise of necessity, while secretly plotting, undermines the principles of democracy,” he stated.

“Although this may be a political setback, the RSP will continue to fight for democratic values and the rights of the people,” Pariyar noted.
