Landslide blocks Beni-Darbang road, stranding travelers

The Beni-Darbang road has been obstructed by a landslide that occurred Friday evening at Lampata Ranbang on the road section. As a result, travelers have been stranded, with many choosing to walk across the landslide site to reach their destinations. This road, which serves as a crucial connection for three municipalities in western Baglung, has faced repeated blockages due to landslides throughout this monsoon season. Local resident Teknath Subedi reported that a new landslide has emerged in the already landslide-prone Lampata Ranbang area. The Beni-Darbang road, considered the lifeline of Myagdi, continues to face significant challenges each year during the monsoon.

1,742 houses built for the poor in Jhapa under safe housing program

Over the past seven years, a total of 1,742 houses have been constructed in Jhapa district under the Safe Housing Program. This initiative was carried out through a joint partnership between local governments, Habitat for Humanity International Nepal, and Sahara Nepal. The Safe Housing Program, aimed at providing housing for low-income families, operates on a tripartite partnership model.

Landslide blocks Karnali Highway, stranding hundreds of passengers

The Karnali Highway has been blocked by a landslide, which occurred last night at Ranchuli, Molfa, and Furke in Kalikot district, along the Surkhet-Jumla road section. Efforts to clear the debris have been underway since this morning, according to Bir Bahadur JT, Information Officer at the Road Division Office, Jumla. The landslide has left hundreds of passengers stranded, as vehicles traveling from Jumla and Mugu to Surkhet, Nepalgunj, and Kathmandu are stuck on the route.

RSP’s ‘Close Camp’ underway in five provinces

The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is currently holding its ‘Close Camp’ across five provinces: Sudurpaschim, Lumbini, Gandaki, Karnali, and Madhesh. The camp will focus on political, institutional, and ideological discussions, as well as amending the party’s statutes. A similar two-day camp for central leaders was previously organized in Kathmandu. The camp has seen participation from 80 members in Sudurpaschim, 70 in Lumbini, 60 in Gandaki, 30 in Karnali, and 80 in Madhesh Province, according to party spokesperson Manish Jha. Participants include members of provincial committees, district coordinators, and members of provincial departments, with facilitation by central party members.

China to assist Nepal in establishing fertilizer plant, awaits investment approval

The Chinese government has expressed its readiness to assist Nepal in establishing a fertilizer plant, with plans to complete the project within the next year once the necessary investment is approved. Chinese Ambassador to Nepal, Chen Song, discussed the initiative with editors from mainstream media on Thursday evening. He reiterated that China is prepared to begin work on the fertilizer plant as soon as the Investment Board Nepal approves the proposal. “Our goal is to operate a fertilizer plant utilizing Nepal’s abundant electricity and water resources. Strengthening our relationship with Nepal and contributing to its development is our priority,” Ambassador Song emphasized.

Parliamentary committee interrogates Tulsi Multipurpose Cooperative Chairman in fraud case

The Parliamentary Investigation Committee, formed to investigate the cooperatives fraud case, has interrogated Kedarnath Sharma, Chairman of Tulsi Multipurpose Cooperative. Sharma, currently incarcerated at Nakhu Jail, was summoned by the committee on Saturday to provide his statement, according to committee chairman and lawmaker Surya Bahadur Thapa Chhetri. The committee has initiated the process of recording statements from operational members and other individuals implicated in the case.

Surge in dengue and cholera cases across Nepal

The number of dengue and cholera cases in Nepal has seen a significant rise in recent weeks, according to the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division under the Ministry of Health and Population. As of last Friday, the total number of dengue cases reached 3,084, with 722 new cases reported in just the past four days. The mosquito-borne infection has spread across the country, with the exception of Mustang, Dolpa, Jumla, and Humla districts, according to Dr. Gokarna Prasad Dahal, Chief of the NTD and Vector Borne Disease Control Section. Tanahu district has recorded the highest number of dengue cases, with 583 infections, followed by 307 cases in Kathmandu, 166 in Kaski, and 135 in Jhapa district. Cholera cases are also on the rise, with 47 cases detected across the country to date.

Phulbari-Banglabandh checkpoint resumes operations, facilitating trade with Bangladesh

The Phulbari-Banglabandh checkpoint, a key trilateral trade route between Nepal, India, and Bhutan, has resumed normal operations. The reopening of the checkpoint has facilitated smoother import processes from Bangladesh. Subas Pandey, Chief of the Nepal Transit and Warehousing Company Limited Office in Kakarvitta, confirmed that containers stationed at Kakarvitta have now headed toward Bangladesh, while consignments at the Bangladeshi border have begun their journey to Nepal.

Youth dies after jumping from roof of Manmohan Hospital

A 21-year-old youth tragically died after jumping from the sixth floor of the Maharajgunj-based Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Center on Saturday. According to the District Police Range, Kathmandu, the incident occurred around 3 p.m. when the youth, identified as Swarupraj Acharya of Gokarneshwor-4, jumped from the roof of a café located on the sixth floor of the hospital building. Acharya was reportedly having coffee at the café prior to the incident. After the fall, he was immediately rushed to the emergency room within the same building but succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment, as confirmed by the police.
