KATHMANDU: The race for candidacy in the upcoming by-election in Ilam-2 has kicked off, with aspirants from the CPN-UML vying for the opportunity to represent the constituency.

The government’s decision to conduct a by-election in Ilam-2 follows the unfortunate passing of Subhash Nembang, the House of Representatives (HoR) member.

Set for April 22, the Election Commission has scheduled the by-election to fill the vacant seat.

In preparation, the CPN-UML has established a district committee tasked with selecting the party’s candidate.

Presently, five party members have submitted their applications for candidacy so far.

Notable among them is Suhang Nembang, the son of the late Subhash Nembang.

Other applicants include Rabindra Subedi, Buddi Khanal, Devi Chhetri Dhulal, and Rippal Rai.

With the stage set for a fiercely contested by-election, the constituents of Illam-2 eagerly await the emergence of their new representative.
