KATHMANDU: The Nepal Red Cross Society has gained legitimacy after getting renewed in five years.

The elected working committee had taken the initiative to renew the organization. It got the certificate of renewal from the District Administration Office, Kathmandu on January 3.

General Secretary of the Society Bhupati Lal Shrestha shared this information by organizing a press conference on Wednesday. He expressed the belief that the renewal of the organization has spread a positive message among all associated with the social organization. It would also help in achieving dynamism, he argued.

The organization has been plagued with internal disputes in the working committee for a long, resulting in lax activism in the disaster rescue and relief works.

It had lost legal identity after it failed to hold a general convention since 2076 Chaitra. As a result, he had to continue its activities on an ad hoc basis.

Nepal Red Cross got a new 33-member central work committee under the chair of Professor Sudarshan Nepal via the general convention held earlier on July 18 and 19. Nepal said, “The charity would improve gradually. Despite past uncertainty, there would not be any dispute and uncertainty anymore.”

The humanitarian organization, Nepal Red Cross Society, was set up on Bhadra 11, 2020 BS.

Now, it has branches in provinces, districts, and even lower levels. It has over 1.2 million volunteers.
