MPs call on govt not to delay to go for vacate over SC’s verdict



KATHMANDU: Lawmakers have drawn the government’s attention of contemporary issues.

Speaking in an emergency hour of today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, Dhawal Shumsher Rana has said a situation might surface where most of the people of Kathmandu would become landless if the government implements criteria of leaving additional 20 meters area along the river banks in the Kathmandu Valley.

“This verdict of the SC will make a large number of people of Kathmandu Valley landless. It is the responsibility of the government to save the property of the people. The government should go for vacate over the Supreme Court decision in this regard”, he underlined.

Similarly, Narayan Khadka drew government’s attention about the problems facing by the people due to incidents of natural disaster across the nation.

Likewise, Mahesh Bartaula demanded that Home Minister should answer the parliament about unattended bomb blast at Phalelung rural municipality-5, Dandagaun, of Panchthar district on August 29 while Sumana Shrestha drew government’s attention towards student’s future and education, adding examinations of Agriculture and Forestry University have been obstructed for 11 days.

Prabhu Sah asked for release of central committee member of Aam Janata Party, Pramod Rana, while Sanjay Kumar Gautam demanded the government to provide relief to victims of wild animals as locals of Bardiya National Park have become victims from the attack of wild animals.

Gyan Bahadur Shahi, Dhurba Bahadur Pradhan, Dr Amaresh Kumar Singh, Saraswoti Bajimaya, Gyanu Basnet Subedi, among others also drew government’s attention on various contemporary issues.

Meanwhile, speaking in special hour of today’s HoR meeting, lawmakers- Arjun Narsingh KC and Rajendra Pandey shared that the decision of the Supreme Court regarding banning construction of structures on an additional 20 metres of the river bank in the Kathmandu Valley would invite a huge problem.

They drew government’s attention, saying around 600,000 people would be displaced if such benchmark is implemented.

They also asked the government to for vacate over SC’s decision.

“Legal solution should be find out to curb possible impacts from implementation of this order”, they opined.
