Ruling coalition to enhance effectiveness of both government and Parliament

A meeting among top leaders of the ruling coalition has led to a decision to enhance the effectiveness of both the government and parliament.

CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula said that the two-hour meeting at the Prime Minister’s official residence, Baluwatar, focused on making both the government and the House more functional.

The ruling parties had been criticized for failing to form a Common Minimum Program (CMP) even two months after the formation of the government.

Valley Road Expansion Victims’ Struggle Committee demands impeachment of SC judges

The Valley Road Expansion Victims’ Struggle Committee called on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli to initiate impeachment proceedings against two Supreme Court judges.

Led by Suman Sayami, coordinator of the Committee, the members visited Baluwatar to submit their demand for the impeachment of Judges Anand Mohan Bhattarai and Binod Sharma.

In their letter, the Committee expressed deep concerns, “Since the court has repeatedly targeted valley dwellers and the local community from the beginning, it is crucial to address this issue.”

Ashok Raj Sigdel takes command of Nepali Army

Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) Ashok Raj Sigdel officially assumed command of the Nepali Army today.

President Ram Chandra Paudel, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Nepali Army, bestowed the insignia upon Sigdel. Subsequently, Sigdel began his duties at the Nepali Army Headquarters.

Sigdel is the 45th Commander-in-Chief of the Nepali Army.

Cooperative savings fraud: Complaint filed against NC Vice President Dhanraj

The Vice President of Nepali Congress and former Law Minister Dhanraj Gurung faces allegations of defrauding cooperative funds. This development comes as a parliamentary committee, led by CPN-UML MP Surya Bahadur Thapa, investigates the embezzlement of funds across 29 cooperatives nationwide.

A formal complaint has been lodged with the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the Nepal Police, seeking an investigation into the alleged cooperative fraud involving Gurung.

NEPSE declines by 55 points with turnover at 9.5 billion

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) on Monday experienced a decline of 55.86 points, closing at 2,646.03 points, a decrease of 2.06 percent.

The total turnover for the day was Rs. 9.5 billion, with 1,010,048 shares traded. The market initially opened with a modest increase of 0.66 points during the pre-open session and saw a brief rise shortly after.

However, the momentum was short-lived as a larger number of investors opted to wait and watch, allowing sellers to dominate.

Shree Airlines flight makes emergency landing just 8 minutes after takeoff at TIA

A Shree Airlines flight flying from Kathmandu to Surkhet made an emergency landing at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) just 8 minutes after departure on Monday morning.

According to Shree Airlines spokesperson Anil Manandhar, the aircraft was forced to return shortly after takeoff due to a problem with the indicator.

The passengers were safely transferred to Surkhet on another flight.

79th United Nations General Assembly begins tomorrow

The 79th United Nations General Assembly will begin in New York tomorrow.

The UNGA is taking place this year from 10th to 30th September under the theme ‘Leaving no one behind: acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations’.

Although the General Assembly starts tomorrow, the high-level general discussion will be held from the September 24.

Two succumb to dengue in Jhapa

A total of 1,065 people have been infected with dengue in Koshi province in the past two years. During this period, two people died in Jhapa due to dengue infection.

Bimala Dahal Paudel, 42, of Haldibari-3 and eight-year-old Alok Jung Basnet of Birtamod-4 have died of dengue in Jhapa, according to Birendra Das, dengue focal person of the health office.

The number of people infected with dengue has reached 128 people in Jhapa in the past two months.

BP Jayanti observed today

The 111th birth anniversary of BP Koirala, Nepal’s first elected Prime Minister, was marked with a range of events across the country today.

Born on Bhadra 24, 1971 BS, Koirala was a key figure in ending the autocratic Rana regime and played a significant role in establishing democracy in Nepal in 2007 BS.

During his exile in India, Koirala actively participated in the Indian freedom struggle, believing that India’s independence would facilitate the introduction of democracy in Nepal.

Following the successful 2007 BS revolution, he served as the home minister in the Rana-Congress government under Mohan Shumsher. Koirala became Nepal’s first elected Prime Minister after the Congress party won a two-thirds majority in the 2015 BS general elections.

Two people die as motorcycle swept away by river

Two individuals lost their lives when their motorcycle was washed away by the Rama river in Rukum West.

The incident occurred on the border of Musikot Municipality-6 and 7 last night. The motorcycle, with license plate RA 6 Pa 2961, was swept away while traveling from Sankha village to Kanewang.

Manandhar wins 5 km open mini marathon

Dhanu Manandhar from Itahari came first in the 5km mini-marathon organised here this morning.

The event was hosted by Nepali Congress Rupandehi to mark the 111th BP Jayanti.

Manandhar completed the distance in 15 minutes and 52 seconds followed by Umesh Barai of Rupandehi who took 16 minutes 4 seconds to come second while Ajay Pandey, also from Rupandehi took 16 minutes 25 seconds to come third.
