170 dead in monsoon-induced disasters across Nepal



KATHMANDU: A total of 170 people have lost their lives in monsoon-induced disasters across Nepal since the start of this year’s monsoon season.

The fatalities are distributed as follows: three in Kathmandu Valley, 25 in Koshi Province, six in Madhesh Province, 31 in Bagmati Province, 54 in Gandaki Province, 33 in Lumbini Province, eight in Karnali Province, and 10 in Sudurpaschim Province.

In addition to the deaths, numerous injuries have been reported: 11 in Kathmandu Valley, 37 in Koshi, 10 in Madhesh, 19 in Bagmati, 46 in Gandaki, 13 in Lumbini, 53 in Karnali, and 14 in Sudurpaschim Province.

Rescue efforts have led to the safe recovery of individuals in various regions, including 28 in Kathmandu Valley, 49 in Koshi, 12 in Bagmati, 14 in Gandaki, two in Lumbini, two in Karnali, and five in Sudurpaschim Province.

However, several people remain missing: two in Koshi, 41 in Bagmati, two in Gandaki, and one each in Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces.

Monsoon-triggered floods have also caused extensive damage across the country, inundating 384 houses, destroying 270 houses, 102 sheds, 43 bridges, two schools, and two government offices.

The disasters have displaced a total of 4,297 families.
