GANDAKI: Kaski district reported 40 new cases of dengue fever, bringing the total number of cases in the past week to 75, according to the District Health Office, Kaski.

As of now, the number of dengue patients has reached 362 since January 2024, Office Chief Ram Bahadur Nepali confirmed.

Nepali warned that the situation could worsen significantly if the outbreak is not contained promptly.

“Dengue fever is spreading rapidly in some wards of Pokhara Metropolitan City,” he added.

Ward No. 8 of Pokhara Metropolitan City has reported the highest number of cases, with 16 out of 319 cases in the city.

To stay safe from dengue fever, Nepali emphasized the importance of avoiding mosquito bites and seeking timely treatment to prevent severe outcomes.

In response to the rising cases, Mayor Dhanraj Acharya announced a ‘search and destroy’ campaign aimed at eliminating mosquito breeding sites.

The campaign will be conducted every Friday from 10:00 to 10:30 in the morning.

Doctors attribute the increase in dengue infections to stagnant water in pits and ditches during the rainy season.

Mayor Acharya urged city residents to eliminate potential mosquito habitats.

Additionally, the Pokhara Metropolitan City has ensured free treatment and diagnostic tests for dengue fever at all 46 health institutions within the city, as stated by Mayor Acharya.
