KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a case against Hemanta Chaudhary, Assistant Director of the National Investigation Department, for submitting fake educational certificates.
CIAA filed case against Chaudhary at Special Court, Kathmandu, on Sunday.
Chaudhary allegedly presented a counterfeit Bachelor’s degree certificate from Magadh University, Bodh Gaya, India, to secure a promotion to the position of Research Officer within the Department.
The CIAA stated that Chaudhary continued to use the same fraudulent certificate to gain promotions to various higher positions, ultimately becoming the Assistant Director of the National Investigation Department.
During this period, he received corresponding rank, benefits, and privileges.
The CIAA has charged Chaudhary under Sub-section 9(10) of Section 16 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 2002, considering his actions as a criminal offense.
CIAA demanded imprisonment and fines as per Sub-section 1 of Section 16 of the same act.
