West Indies dominate Uganda with massive 134-run victory in Guyana

KATHMANDU: West Indies continued their winning streak in T20 Internationals with a resounding 134-run victory over Uganda, marking their sixth successive win in the format.

After winning the toss, West Indies skipper Rovman Powell opted to bat first on what he deemed a favorable batting wicket.

The opening duo of Brandon King and Johnson Charles set the pace with an aggressive start.

However, King was soon dismissed by left-arm spinner Alpesh Ramjani.

Nicholas Pooran then took center stage, smashing two sixes early in his innings, signaling his aggressive intent.

Despite disciplined bowling from Frank Nsubuga and Brian Masaba, who managed to take Pooran’s wicket, the West Indies batters capitalized on any loose deliveries, piling on runs during the middle overs.

A significant moment for Uganda came with the dismissal of the hard-hitting Powell in the 16th over.

Nonetheless, West Indies finished strong, thanks to Andre Russell’s powerful hitting, which added 45 runs in the final four overs, bringing the total to a formidable score.

Uganda struggles against dominant West Indies bowling attack

Uganda’s chase faltered from the beginning, with West Indies bowlers taking early wickets.

Akeal Hosein led the assault, taking three wickets in the first Powerplay.

He continued his remarkable spell by securing his first-ever T20I five-for in the seventh over.

Romario Shepherd and Andre Russell also contributed to the wicket tally, leaving Uganda’s batters struggling.

Further contributions from Alzarri Joseph and Gudakesh Motie ensured Uganda’s collapse, bowled out for a mere 39 runs in just 12 overs.

The victory highlights the West Indies’ dominance in T20 cricket, showcasing a well-rounded performance with both bat and ball.

Akeal Hosein’s exceptional five-wicket haul and contributions from the entire bowling unit emphasized their prowess on the field.
