Government set to disburse Rs 29.7 million in awards to players

KATHMANDU: The government has approved the distribution of Rs 29.7 million in prize money to players from various sports disciplines.

During a Cabinet meeting held on Thursday, a proposal submitted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports was endorsed, paving the way for awarding medal winners of the 19th Asian Games, the Nepali Cricket Team, Para-Taekwondo players, and coaches.

Out of the total allocation, Rs 20,475,000 will be awarded to the Nepal Men’s National Cricket Team for their outstanding performance in the ACC Men’s T-20 World Cup.

Each of the 15 players will receive Rs 1,300,000, head coach Monti Desai will receive Rs 390,000, and team manager Suman Raj Karki, assistant coach Basanta Shahi, and physio Bikram Neupane will each be granted Rs 195,000.

Additionally, Erika Gurung will receive Rs 1,950,000 for her historic achievements in the 19th Asian Games.

The Nepali Karate Team will be rewarded with Rs 2,535,000 for their remarkable performance and achievements in the Asian Games, while each of the 12 members of the National Women’s Kabaddi Team will receive Rs 390,000.

Furthermore, Pelesha Gobardan will be granted Rs 1,300,000 for her achievements in the Fourth Asian Para Sports 2022.

The coaches, managers, and other supporting members of these players will also be honored alongside the athletes.
