UML takes lead in women’s empowerment: Chairman Oli

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli has declared his party’s staunch commitment to women’s empowerment and awareness, asserting that the UML stands at the forefront of these endeavors.

Speaking at an event organized by the Motidevi Memorial Centre on the occasion of the 114th International Women’s Day in Kathmandu, Chairperson Oli emphasized that the UML would continue to spearhead the campaign for social transformation, women’s awareness, and social justice.

He highlighted the party’s efforts towards ensuring 40 percent representation of women among all levels of people’s representatives and advocating for 33 percent reservation for women in state bodies, considering these initiatives as significant achievements.

Additionally, former Prime Minister Oli unveiled “Sangharshshil Youddhaharu” and honored individuals who have made remarkable contributions to social activism, research, and the communist movement.

Among those honored were inspirational figure Dhammawati Guruma, young scientist Rojita Buddhacharya, wildlife photographer Binita Bhandari, entrepreneur Sabitri Thapa, social worker Shanti Chadda, politician Sona Chhedung Lama, courageous bus driver Renuka Thapa, doctor Tulsi Shahi, social activist Soniya Sadaya, and anti-human trafficking campaigner Charimaya Tamang.

Asta Laxmi Shakya, Chairperson of the Center, announced that women contributing to social transformation and women’s awareness would continue to be honored in the future as well.

The Motidevi Memorial Centre was established in memory of Moti Devi Shrestha, one of the founders of the Communist Party of Nepal.
