Traditional budget system hindering country’s transformation: PM

Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda” has announced what he said the commencement of a “significant transformation” in the national budget system. In a discussion with development and planning experts at Singha Durbar on Friday, he expressed his concern about the traditional budget system, labeling it as a hindrance to the country’s overall transformation. He criticized the prevalent practice of producing a new budget each year that merely serves as a ‘photocopy’ of its predecessor.

Koshi CM Karki expands cabinet

Chief Minister Kedar Karki has expanded the government in Koshi province. After four months of appointment, Karki has expanded the cabinet for the second time. On Friday, he added four ministers and two state ministers. Pradeep Kumar Sunuwar and Ram Kumar Khatri from Nepali Congress were appointed as ministers. Sunuwar received the responsibility of the Ministry of Health, while Khatri was assigned to the Ministry of Industry, Agriculture, and Cooperative Development.

DIG Chand transferred from TIA to headquarters

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Arjun Chand, the chief of Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Security Office, has been transferred to the Nepal Police Headquarters. The Ministry of Home Affairs transferred Chand from the airport to the Headquarters in connection with the latter’s dissatisfaction with the Ministry’s decision on the misunderstanding between the immigration officials and the security personnel deployed there.

Koshi govt and identity-based agitators reach five-point agreement

A 5-point agreement has been inked on Friday between the Koshi provincial government and identity-based parties who had been protesting the name of Koshi Province.Under the leadership of Koshi Chief Minister Kedar Karki, the government negotiated and agreed upon five points during ongoing talks that commenced on Thursday. As outlined in the agreement, both the provincial government and identity advocates have committed to joint initiatives aimed at fostering a political environment conducive to changing the province’s name in accordance with constitutional principles.

Milan Devkota appointed Member-Secretary of Nepal Tourism Board

Milan Devkota has been entrusted with the role of Member-Secretary of the Executive Committee at the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB). The decision was made during the 362nd meeting of the Board, convened this Thursday. While currently serving as a board member, Devkota’s new responsibility as Member-Secretary is set to span a maximum of three months. This appointment comes at a time where the position of the Executive Chief at NTB remains vacant.

Minister Basnet and former Minister Karki provide statements amid allegations of authority misuse

Health Minister Mohan Bahadur Basnet and former minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki have given statements in response to the ongoing investigation by the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) into irregularities in the procurement of telecommunications equipment for the Nepal Telecommunications Authority. Despite being summoned by the Authority before the national elections, both of them presented their statements only on Thursday.

14 candidates shortlisted for TU Vice-Chancellor position

The recommendation committee responsible for selecting the Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University (TU) has prepared a shortlist of 14 candidates, marking a milestone in the university’s history. This marks the first time the university has embarked on the process of appointing a Vice-Chancellor through an open competition. Initiating the transparent selection process, Tribhuvan University had earlier announced the call for applications. A total of 43 individuals had applied for the position.
