SAARC prominent in fostering mutual trust: PM Oli

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Oli has highlighted South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation’s (SAARC) significant role in fostering mutual trust, understanding, and cooperation among its member states.

Extending greetings to the governments and peoples of the SAARC member states on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the SAARC Charter Day today, PM Oli reaffirmed Nepal’s firm commitment, as the current SAARC Chair, to the principles outlined in the SAARC Charter for building a peaceful, prosperous, and integrated South Asia.

The Prime Minister also addressed the ongoing socioeconomic and environmental challenges faced by the region, including climate change and transnational organized crime.

He emphasized the need to revitalize the SAARC process to promote the shared interests and prosperity of the people in South Asia.

In a separate message, Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba extended her best wishes to the governments and peoples of the SAARC member states on this significant occasion.

Dr. Rana acknowledged the vision of SAARC’s founding leaders and the importance of the SAARC Charter in promoting collective self-reliance, improving the quality of life, and fostering regional solidarity to address the common challenges faced by the member states.

She also underscored the necessity of revitalizing SAARC to ensure it can fulfill its objectives, including the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in the spirit of mutual understanding and consensus as enshrined in the Charter.
